Richard Edmond Bennett, a native of Canada, was born in 1946. He served a mission to Texas in 1967-1969. He married Patricia Dyer and has five children. He received his Ph.D in U.S. Intellectual History at Wayne State University. He served as head of University of Manitoba special collections from 1978-1987 and professor of Church History and Doctrine and Covenants at Brigham Young University.
